BevNET Review:
The sports drink Accelerade claims to use a bit of protein as a way of facilitating re-hydration. If we were capable of arguing the science behind such a claim, we probably wouldn’t write drink reviews, but our experience in writing said reviews allows us to say that, regardless of the science, this stuff doesn’t taste too great. It’s a little sour and has a bit of a metallic flavor, likely from the whey protein isolate used in the mix. It’s also the color of lime Jell-o, which is kind of unattractive. Accelerade is lower in sugar and salt than most other sports drinks, but it’s also lower in lemon-lime flavor. It does have a nice, easy to read label with an attractive trademark symbol that seems to ring true with a product whose main marketing point is its science-based background. That might be good for the first sale, but we don’t know about the repeat business.
